The Weightlifting Club at FAMU is open to all fitness levels—whether you’re new to lifting or an experienced athlete, there’s a place for you here. Our mission is to build strength, discipline, and community through shared goals, themed workouts, and a supportive atmosphere. We host a variety of events and fundraisers, including bench press and back squat competitions, tire push relays, and a crowd-favorite “Penny for a Pound” lift-a-thon, where donations support participants in a tournament-style challenge. Members can also enjoy Themed Challenge Days like Max-Out Mondays, Technique Tuesdays, and Take-a-Friend Thursdays to keep training fun and consistent. Membership expectations include logging at least 5 hours a week at the Rec Center and paying a one-time $25 fee, which goes toward shirts. We hold weekly group sessions and monthly general meetings, with additional sessions for competitors. We emphasize service, mental wellness, and academic balance. Volunteer opportunities include working with the Boys and Girls Club, and we offer mental health check-ins throughout the semester. On social media, we spotlight members, share fitness tips, and conduct interviews that keep our community engaged and inspired. Nutrition education is also part of our program, with info on balanced meals, vitamins, and sleep. We aim to grow our legacy while uplifting others through strength, service, and unity. Come lift with us—one rep at a time
