The Alliance for Florida's National Parks Needs Volunteers for Big Cypress Celebration
The Alliance for Florida's National Parks Needs Volunteers for Big Cypress Celebration The Alliance for Florida's National Parks is seeking FGCU student volunteers to support our annual Big Cypress Celebration , a community event held at Burns Lake Campground in Big Cypress National Preserve. Volunteers will assist with event setup, including setting up tents, tables, and chairs, as well as helping with parking logistics and directing guests as they arrive. Students may also assist with coordinating participants during walks and other event activities. Volunteers will be provided with walkie-talkies to help communicate with event staff throughout the day and support overall event logistics. Proceeds from this event help fund programs in Florida’s national parks, ensuring these special places remain protected and accessible for generations to come. The event runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (with early setup starting at 8:00 AM) but we are flexible with volunteer shifts and do not require students to serve for the entire event. We would greatly appreciate any amount of time they are able to contribute, particularly during our main setup, breakdown, guest assistance, and event logistics needs. Volunteers with experience and knowledge of Big Cypress National Preserve are also welcome to serve as Leads or Sweeps during hikes. Leads help lead the group, share knowledge about the area, and keep participants moving safely and together throughout the hike. Sweeps remain toward the back of the group, helping ensure that no participants are left behind and providing additional support as needed along the way. By giving your time, you're not just supporting an event, you're part of something bigger - a movement to know, love, and support our national parks. The Alliance for Florida’s National Parks is the official philanthropic partner of Big Cypress National Preserve and Biscayne, Dry Tortugas, and Everglades National Parks. Our mission is to use the power of philanthropy to support education, exploration, and conservation in Florida’s national parks.
