History of Alpha Phi Phi Fraternity Incorporated Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity for African American men, was founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University. It was established to create a strong bond of brotherhood among African descendants in the U.S. by its seven visionary founders, known as the "Jewels," who focused on promoting scholarship, leadership, and service. Throughout its history, Alpha Phi Alpha has been committed to academic excellence, personal development, civil rights, social justice, and community service. Today, the fraternity continues to make a global impact through its initiatives and advocacy efforts. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has several national programs aimed at community outreach and mentoring. The Brother’s Keeper program focuses on improving the quality of life for senior fraternity members, their spouses, widows, and other vulnerable individuals, offering support for retirees, those with disabilities, and those in need. A Voteless People is a Hopeless People (VPHP), launched in the 1930s, addresses voter education and registration, initially tackling the barriers African-Americans faced when voting, and now promotes political awareness and empowerment through forums and town meetings. The Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College program, established in 1922, emphasizes the importance of completing high school and college as a path to success. Project Alpha™ educates young males ages 12-15 about responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases, through workshops that provide accurate information on these critical topics. History of the Tau Delta Chapter of ΑΦΑ The Tau Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Florida International University (FIU) was founded by Brother Wellington Richards to unify FIU’s African-American students. In 1995, Brother Kenneth Lundy brought Alpha's presence to FIU after transferring from the University of California-Davis. He promoted the fraternity while working in Student Minority Services after graduating in 1996. In 1997, Kenneth met Wellington, and they worked together to establish Alpha on campus, with Kenneth focusing on administrators and Wellington on students. By 1998, the Tau Delta Chapter was officially approved at the Alpha Phi Alpha State Convention in the Bahamas. The founding line, "Know Thy Self," included Mustafa Strachan and Seth Crapp, who crossed in Spring 1999 under the guidance of Wellington as their Dean of Pledges.
