Topics covered: Basics of relational databases, including what a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) is; How to model a simple database, including the significance of keys and unique values in structuring tables. Best practices, including avoiding composite keys, using consistent table naming conventions, and implementing arbitrary identifiers (surrogate keys); Introduction to SQL statements and simple table joins; and, How to continue learning about the concepts after the workshop.
