The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is a national organization that is dedicated to promoting women's health, improving the professional development and personal well-being of its members, and increasing the influence of women in all aspects of the medical profession. American Medical Women's Association is a national organization designed to address the needs of female medical professionals and female patients. At the FSU College of Medicine, this group serves two purposes. First, it is a source of support for female medical and PA students. Women face unique challenges as physicians as they attempt to balance family and medicine. AMWA is here to provide support and advice. Second, we serve as a source of information about the special needs of female patient populations. Topics we are presently addressing at FSU COM are the health and well-being of medical students, violence against women, and professional development. This chapter is for students of the College of Medicine. For undergraduates interested in involvement with AMWA, please search for FSU's Undergraduate Chapter.
