Throughout Chi Omega's long and proud history, our six purposes have guided the direction of every chapter and brought our members unequaled opportunities for personal growth and development. These purposes are Friendship, High Standards of Personnel, Sincere Learning and Credible Scholarship, Participation in Campus Activities, Career Development, and Community Service. Chi Omega Fraternity is the largest women's fraternal organization in the world with over 182 collegiate chapters nationwide. Our sorority was founded April 5, 1895 at the University of Arkansas and our much beloved Florida State University Gamma Chapter of Chi Omega was colonized in 1904 and later chartered on May 7, 1908. More commonly known as "Chi O", our organization's colors are cardinal and straw, our mascot is the owl, our symbol is the skull and crossbones and our flower is the white carnation. Our philanthropic events benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical illnesses. Some fun facts about Chi Omega: The Longmire building at FSU is named in honor of a Chi Omega. Chi Omegas can be found among Student Government, professional executive boards, honor and leadership societies, FSU Cheerleaders and Golden Girls, as well as orientation leaders and peer instructors.
