(Second) Language Acquisition Network Group (S.L.A.N.G) Addressing the Gap in Language Learning Opportunities Issue: Many students studying a foreign language struggle to find effective ways to enhance their language acquisition. Key challenges include: Limited real-world use of a second language across diverse topics. Difficulty in fostering friendships and connections with individuals from different cultures and language backgrounds. A significant gap between learners of different languages (e.g., learners of English and Spanish). Uncomfortability in conversing with strangers in a foreign language. Strong desire to actively produce and practice a second language. Mission: To establish a robust network within Tallahassee that enhances the acquisition of second languages and to create an organization that provides solutions to the issues indicated above. Promotion of Cultural Diversity and Inclusion: Language exchanges in which we will bring international and internationally-minded/rooted students together to converse in various languages. Sharing cultural aspects of language through presentations on topics like language diffusion, language extinction, etymology, scientific language use, etc Partnering with other cultural clubs for mutual benefits and greater diffusion. Organizing music exchanges and performances by culturally diverse bands. Cultural Showcases: Hosting events where members can present cultural dances, traditional attire, and other cultural artifacts.
