Design/Build/Fly provides students with the opportunity to develop their technical, leadership, and collaborative skills in a practical, competition-focused engineering environment. Each year, our team designs, manufactures, tests, and flies a new mission-driven aircraft for the annual AIAA Design/Build/Fly Competition. Students gain hands-on experience throughout the entire engineering design process, from initial concept development and analysis to detailed design, manufacturing, integration, and flight testing. Team members work across a variety of disciplines, including aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, electronics, controls, and manufacturing, while learning to communicate and coordinate effectively within a large multidisciplinary team. Through this process, students apply concepts learned in the classroom to real engineering challenges, develop practical technical skills, and gain experience solving problems under realistic cost, schedule, and competition constraints.
