Gator Racing at the University of Florida is a student-run motorsports team that races in the Collegiate Racing Series, the sanctioning body for collegiate wheel-to-wheel racing. CRS (the Collegiate Racing Series) brings teams from universities across the country together on an even playing field on the track. It operates as a multi-round season that leads into a national championship. In addition, the car is built to a national spec class, opening the door to more competition as the program grows. Our purpose is to give UF students a real path into motorsports. Drivers, Crew Members, Engineers, Business Personnel, and Media Personnel all play a part in making a race team function. Each role is filled by a student, and each role matters on race weekend. Throughout the year, students will learn the ins and outs of operating a race team. Members will attend frequent GBMs as well as sub-team meetings. They will work hands-on with vehicle prep, maintenance, and setup. They will also be exposed to driver development and learn the tech procedures that determine the why behind the decisions we make. Students will also learn the financial side of a race team, from sponsorships, to race weekend costs. The goal is for our members to become acclimated not just to one sub-team, but to all aspects of the team, eventually settling on whichever sub-team best suits their abilities. This will give them direct experience in the same roles that exist on professional race teams. In turn, this will prep them for the future and further their understanding to think critically while solving problems revolving around the car and the team. There is no prior automotive or racing experience required, as new members will be paired up with returning members who will work with them to meaningfully contribute in their first semester. This will allow them to move into leadership roles as they develop and continue the knowledge transfer. Gator Racing at the University of Florida is open to all UF students regardless of class year, experience level, or major, and welcomes anyone who is interested in being involved with motorsports.
