Small Bites Nutrition is a student-led organization dedicated to providing engaging, practical nutrition education to local elementary school students through recurring hands-on workshops. Our volunteers lead age-appropriate nutrition lessons and simple cooking activities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Workshops are designed to help children build foundational knowledge about food, nutrients, balanced eating, and healthy habits while giving them opportunities to participate directly through interactive activities and recipes. Small Bites Nutrition also gives University of Florida students the opportunity to become involved in consistent community service, nutrition education, working with children, and leadership. Members can participate as workshop volunteers, help develop educational materials, take on group leadership responsibilities, and contribute to outreach and other organization initiatives. The organization emphasizes creating lessons that are understandable, realistic, and applicable to students’ everyday lives. Educational and recipe materials are developed with elementary-aged students in mind and are reviewed and organized so they can be used consistently across workshops. Membership is open to enrolled University of Florida students from all majors and backgrounds. Previous experience in nutrition, teaching, or working with children is not required. Small Bites Nutrition aims to create an organized, welcoming volunteer community while building sustainable relationships with local schools and community partners through recurring nutrition and cooking education.
