Studio Practice is a monthly series of hands-on, practical art classes where students of all levels learn to create in varying media with the instruction of a local artist. Open to adults and teens in the company of an adult. In this class, participants will create basic clay forms over hump molds, then use textured objects, clay carving tools, and basic sculpting techniques to decorate and manipulate the surface and form. They will explore basic underglaze techniques, including painting, washes, and sgraffito, to apply color, imagery, and patterns to the surface. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on significant aspects of their identities and guided in using clay to create an abstract representation of themselves.
