In partnership with the Gulf Archaeology Research Institute, the USF Archaeology club and the Tampa Bay Society of the AIA are organizing a field trip up to Fort King National Historic Landmark in Ocala, FL. Fort King is a reconstructed 19th-century border settlement that preserves the history of the Second Seminole War - a conflict between the United States and the Seminole people who are now organized into three federally recognized tribes: the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. Scholars at the GARI have organized a full day trip including tours, archaeological events, and activities related to the historical preservation of the site. Registration is required for this event, please contact the president of the Archaeology Club: sophieporzi@usf.edu. There will be an informational session for the travel group to get together before October 17th, stay tuned for more details!
