The Society of Competitive Programmers (SCP) will send 15 students across five teams to represent the University of South Florida at the 2026โ2027 ICPC Southeast USA Regional Contest. SCP provides USF students with structured opportunities to strengthen their programming and problem-solving skills, build confidence in technical work, and prepare for programming competitions. Competitive programming develops skills in data structures and algorithms, implementation, debugging, teamwork, and communication under time pressure. These are skills that are also highly relevant to technical interviews and careers in software engineering and computing. The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is a global collegiate programming competition in which teams of three work together to solve challenging algorithmic problems during a five-hour contest. ICPC describes itself as the world's oldest, largest, and most prestigious collegiate programming contest. Participating in an ICPC Regional gives students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in a high-level competitive environment, learn from other strong programmers, and gain experience solving unfamiliar problems under real contest pressure. This experience directly reinforces the DSA, problem-solving, and coding skills commonly evaluated in technical interviews, while helping students identify areas they can continue improving. ICPC competitions also have strong connections with industry. Technology and quantitative firms sponsor ICPC events and engage with the competitive programming community because of the strong algorithmic and problem-solving skills demonstrated by its participants. For students, competing provides an opportunity to showcase their technical abilities, connect with other talented programmers and industry professionals, and gain exposure to potential internship and career opportunities. ๐ Location: Florida International University (FIU), Miami ๐ Date: November 7, 2026 Tune in with us and see what our students will be able to achieve!
