The Iranian Society at FAU (ISO) is a student-led organization dedicated to celebrating and sharing Iranian culture with the Florida Atlantic University community. Our mission is to foster a sense of belonging among Iranian students, promote cultural exchange, and enrich campus life through the appreciation of Iranian traditions, arts, and values. We aim to create a vibrant community where students of all backgrounds can come together to learn about and experience Iranian culture. Goals and Objectives: Cultural Celebrations: Organize events to celebrate significant Iranian cultural ceremonies, including Nowrouz (Persian New Year), Yalda Night (Winter Solstice), and Chaharshanbe Suri (the last Wednesday of the Persian year) with its special fire ceremonies and fireworks, along with traditional music, food, and activities. Community Building: Host regular gatherings to encourage connection among members, such as playing board games like Mafia and engaging in outdoor activities like beach volleyball. These activities will provide a relaxed and engaging environment for new members to integrate into the community while fostering deeper connections and teamwork among all participants. Cultural Exchange: Facilitate events that introduce Iranian culture to the broader FAU community, such as workshops, movie nights featuring Iranian films, and cultural showcases. Support Network: Provide a supportive space for Iranian students to share experiences, connect, and navigate university life. Initial Planned Activities: Nowrouz Celebration: A festive gathering featuring traditional Iranian cuisine, music, and a Haft-Seen display to mark the Persian New Year. Yalda Night: A cultural evening with storytelling, poetry recitation, and traditional snacks to celebrate the longest night of the year. Game Nights: Social events where members can play popular Iranian games such as Mafia and other board games, along with movie nights featuring iconic Iranian films to foster cultural understanding and enjoyment. Beach Volleyball Meetups: Outdoor gatherings to foster community spirit and encourage physical activity. The Iranian Society at FAU will enrich campus life by celebrating diversity and providing opportunities for cultural exchange. Through our events and activities, we hope to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that highlights the beauty and depth of Iranian culture. Additionally, we plan to collaborate with other cultural groups and councils at FAU to broaden our impact and foster mutual understanding across diverse communities.
