Iron Arrow Honor Society was founded in 1926 by student, Francis Spencer Houghtaling, and University of Miami President Bowman Foster Ashe. The Highest Honor Attained at the University of Miami - Iron Arrow ritual and tradition was established through our relationship with the Seminole Nation at its inception and currently with the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. Based on Seminole Indian tradition, Iron Arrow recognizes those individuals in the University of Miami community who exemplify the five qualities of Iron Arrow: Love of Alma Mater, Character, Leadership, Scholarship, and Humility.
